Richmond → San Diego, artist Kate Feddersen works primarily in glass and ceramic craft practices. She recently graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts with two BFAs, one in Craft/Material Studies and one in Art Education, with a minor in Art History, focusing in Feminist Art History.

"Everything but the kitchen sink" is a phrase Kate remembers distinctly from childhood, used to describe someone who is, or brings, too much. She has spent her career quietly arguing the opposite: that no amount of knowledge, craft, effort, or time is ever too much to give in your life.

That conviction has taken shape across a wide range of experience in marketing, printmaking, studio maintenance, event hosting, gallery preparation, and community-centered art initiatives, alongside full-time clinical teaching in K–5 classrooms. The result is a practice as comfortable in the studio as in front of a classroom.

Kate's personal work has shown on the East Coast and in Florence, Italy. Working across ceramics, glass, neon, printmaking, painting, and installation, her practice celebrates the spontaneity and liberation of play, both within and beyond traditional craft processes. Drawing from her own childhood and on the students she teaches, she centers her work and her pedagogy on experimentation, working to treat failure not as an endpoint but as a catalyst for growth, curiosity, and creative freedom.
